However is like 'sin embargo' in Spanish. Nevertheless is a bit like 'no obstante'. 'However' can also be 'en cualquier forma'
For example: This is a serious topic which deserves the utmost consideration. However, whether or not it will be treated as such is a different question.
Translation: Esto es un tema serio que merece la mayor consideración. Sin embargo, es un otro asunto si será tratado así o no.
Example 2: They did their best, but they failed nevertheless.
Translation: Hicieron lo mejor que pudieron, pero no obstante esto, han reprobado/fallido.

These are two linking words that introduce a restriction or mitigation
However: to deny it often suggests a possibility or a concession..
Nevertheless: a restriction on the thought or the fact mentioned above.

I think they have similar usage...however "however" is used to illustrate a difference, like in this same sentence I am writing!
Also, however is used more in daily speaking than nevertheless.

Similar usage as adverb or conjunction. The two are synonyms. However has several uses, however (grins) - for example 'but however it is used it is still good value ...' or 'however far we go we never arrive' However also means whatever way, to whatever extent
