'Be seated' and 'sit down' are they same in meaning?

"Be seated" is very formal and you will usually only hear it said during a ceremony or church service. "Sit down" can be a little too direct if you don't include "please". A common way to say this is also "have a seat".

Yes, they have the same meaning, but "be seated" sounds more formal.
