How to ask what something is in Korean?
Okay so say that you are with a friend and you two see something in the distance. You can't quite see what it is so you ask your friend: "저거 뭐여요?" Your friend squints to see and can tell what that is in the distance and replies "저 사람이에요." Would that be the correct exchange in that situation?

You usually use 뭐지(informal/casual) or 뭐에요(informal/polite)

Yes, but this is the correct question form 저거 뭐(에)요? not 저거 뭐(여)요? and your answer is correct 저 사람이에요 ... I'm not sure tho but I think I'm right
