jantar or ceia?
Which of these two words should I use to talk about dinner (the evening meal)? Is there more than one evening meal in Brazil? Do these two words refer to the same thing?

Jantar is the word from a common dinner. The dinner we have everyday.
On the other hand, ceia is something more special. Normally when we have a family gathering for an especial occasion (usually religious).
Ex: Ceia de natal = Christmas meal
Ceia do dia de ação de Graças = Thanksgiving meal
A última ceia = the last meal Jesus had with his apostles.
etc...

Jantar é o correto.
Se diz: Essa noite eu vou jantar com um amigo.
Ceia serve apenas no dia de Natal.
Vamos ceiar essa noite de Natal junto com os nossos amigos.

Jantar is word we use for dinner. Ceia is the bedtime snack, like a glass of milk with some cookies or someting.
