I prefer learning arabic by sentences/phrases or better by short dialogues (like you said 6-7 lines). Or if I am learning vocabulary it would be like up to 10 maybe more. But I wouldn't want to learn new sentences or words every day. I rather practise the same vocabulary, rules or sentences for a week and then move on to next one.

It is helpful to have Egyptian Spoken Arabic written and spelt out into English. My top method however is the Michel Thomas language method.
