What does "now famous" mean in the sentence? That was the date of a now famous meeting, in which Robert Swanson, a venture capitalist, approached Herbert Boyer, a biochemist at the University of California. What does "now famous" mean in the sentence?

It means that today, the meeting is a well-known event. At the time it happened, nobody knew how significant the meeting would be in the future. Today, with the benefit of retrospect, we know about this meeting and why it was important.

In my opinion, I think this sentence expresses the meeting which was not famous at the time of its occurring but uptil now it became famous.
