Could anybody explain me what 신선 means in English? I was having a conversation about Confucianism and was told by a Korean to look up the word 신선 because she didn't know how to translate it into English. When I translated it on Google Translate I got the meaning "fresh", but when I look at the pictures it clearly seems to have something to do with Confucianism, considering several pictures of Confucius appear. Any help are appreciated :)

If it has something to do with Confucianism, 신선 means an imagnary man who leaves the world of human after cultivating himself morally or religiously and lives in the nature. They have no illness, no suffering nither die. They are a sort of god, not exactly god, but kind of. It's a definition of korean dictionary :) 도(道)를 닦아서 현실의 인간 세계를 떠나 자연과 벗하며 산다는 상상의 사람. 세속적인 상식에 구애되지 않고, 고통이나 질병도 없으며 죽지 않는다고 한다.

If you look at the second definition here: http://dic.daum.net/word/view.do?wordid=kew000045439&q=신선 - it seems to have another meaning: "a legendary hermit with miraculous powers". Then, if you check out the Hanja, you'll get more information - http://hanjadic.bravender.us/神仙
