The idea is that there are many local languages spoken in Spain and castellano is only one of them. To call it Spanish is like you would imply that this is the only language spoken by Spaniards, which a Catalan for instance would not be very happy about :)

its called spanish because the language was born in spain and its called castellano in all the other countries that speak it but in general its the same except for the diferents accents and ways it has in every diferent country

there is no difference between Castellano and Español. Is the same, called in a differente way. The oficial name is Castellano.

if i'm not mistaken castellano, catalano, gallego and euskara are the basic forms of spanish. and again if i remember correctly, castellano is decided to be the official language of Spain
