Is there any difference between "acquire knowledge" and "gain knowledge"?

They are basically the same. The only thing I would say is that with "acquire", it seems more like you received the knowledge with help from someone or something. Whereas, with "gain, it seems more like you received the knowledge completely on your own. But that is a very subtle difference. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
