What does "a burden" mean in the context? If you choose to give up meat dairy and eggs, you want to be fully prepared for any possible drawbacks to this new lifestyle. One of major disadvantages for many vegetarians is how vegetarianism affects other areas of their lives. For instance, they may have a harder time grocery shopping or eating out. Their new lifestyle may be a burden if they have friends or family that enjoy restaurants with burger or steak dishes. What does "a burden" mean in the context? Please help me! Thanks!!^ ^

I don't think it means responsibility here. Actually burden can also mean load: something that is carried. It can be a. Something that is emotionally difficult to bear. b. A source of great worry or stress; weight. It is emotioanlly difficult when your family eats meat and tells you everyday that it is necessary for your health. Thank goodness, my parents have got used to my lifestyle. :))

A responsibility, and in some contexts, a heavy one (that can be hard to bear, or is a nuisance).
