You can use both of them. But we are using さくや or きのう の よる a lot than さくばん. きのう の よる　は・・・is commonly used most. It's sounds natural to talk even wｒite. ^-^ きのうのよるは、おすし　を　たべました。( sounds natural most) さくばん/さくや おすしをたべました。(We don't say like that much.) きのうのよる、わたしの ひいおばあさん　が なくなりました。100歳 でした。( My great-grandmother was gone last night. She was 100 years old.)　= not so bad if you use きのうのよる さくばん/さくや、わたしの そうそふ(= ひいおばあさん) が なくなりました。 100歳でした。 =It's a best. So, you can use さくばん/さくや when you need to speak like in a formal situation or business scenes. ^-^
