I wish=我希望 我希望+聪明(intelligent)=I wish+ I was intelligent 我希望+吃泡菜(eat Kimchi)=I wish+ I could eat Kimch 我希望+住在北京(live in Beijing)=I wish+ I lived in Beijing

"I wish+past tense "and" If I were" are both subjunctive mood,so if u want to emphasize the reality is opposite,you can add"虽然/可是我不...",a sentence like"but I don't". e.s.I wish I was intelligent --我真希望我是个聪明人,虽然我不是。 If I were rich,I would travel around the world--如果我有了很多钱,我就要去周游世界,可是我没钱。 etc.
