Is there any difference between "skim the text" and "skip through the text"?

I've never heard the word 'skip' used for a reading strategy. The usual terms for reading strategies are 'skimming' and 'scanning'.
A child might skip through a field of flowers, but I wouldn't tell someone to skip through a text.

"Skim the text" is definitely the more widely used phrase when you want to convey the action of getting the gist of a particular piece of literature.
However, "skip through the text" can also be used. It means the same thing. You can also find this stated in the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of American Idioms and Phrasal Verbs. © 2002 by The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. ( http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/skip+through )
