"Pattern of" would relate to observed or recorded behaviour; "Pattern for" might imply instructed or learned behaviour (like we say "template for" or "recipe for").
To be honest, this looks like bad writing to me - the kind of academic writing where the writer has little of substance to say, so they chain a bunch of big words together and hope you don't notice. That may be unfair as it's only a few lines, but hey...
