a story: start from 1 and finish at 10. if u have just heard from 1 to 4 and u want to know what happened from 5 to 10. so u can say: I have heard from 1 to 4, 之后发生了什么？ if u have just heard from 5 to 10 and u want to know what happened from 1 to 4. so u can say: I have heard from 5 to 10, 之前发生了什么？ if u have known the whole story but u dont know what its background is, u can ask: 这个故事发生的背景是什么？ for example, - "《拯救大兵瑞恩》这个电影我听说过，但是我不知道这个故事发生的背景是什么，你能告诉我么？” - “这是一个发生在二战时期的故事” here, "二战时期" is the background.
