Can someone check whether the sentence I've just made up correct, please?
Here's what I want to say: "The robbers weren't smart enough to not to get caught by the police". Is that correct? Would you have said that somehow differently?

The robbers weren't smart enough NOT TO get caught by the police :)

Or, this would be clearer:
"The robbers weren't smart enough to avoid getting caught by the police."
