Present perfect and past perfect. What are the differences between them?
I don't understand when I have to use the two tenses. I studied the grammar in my school books and I read in internet the rules, but they are all confusing . Can you easily explain me the tenses also with some example? Thank you very much

You use present perfect when talking about the present, and past perfect when talking about the past.
I can't imagine a situation where one could be confused with the other.

Present perfect is used for the nearest past, like I have just comment on italky. Past perfect is for the past nearer than the simple past, like I had written my notes when my cat ate my paper note. So, I write the notes before my cat ate it.... I hope it's clear to you :)

Perfect tenses connect one time with another.
The present perfect connects the past with the present. For example:
I've known Maria for a long time.
The past perfect connects the past with a previous time. For example.
John had only known Maria for a short time when he asked her to marry him.
