nil or zero?
Hello everyone,
Can I say 'zero' instead of 'nil' when reading a score?
Thanks!

Yes you can, it is perfectly valid to do so, but you will not sound natural doing it. In scores for sports of competitions, we always say Nil, except in sports such as tennis where they say 'love'.

"Nil" is never used in the US in sports scores. It is almost always read as "nothing",. A 3-0 score is read as "three to nothing." You would rarely use zero in this format, as "three to zero", but you can say the score was "Chicago three, New York zero" but even here "nothing" is the preferred word.
