Burping is not considered as a good manner here as well. Talking about slurping, there are some cases that it is totally acceptable like eating noodles (except pastas^^)or drinking the classic Macha tea at the tea ceremony. For seating position, it is a little complicated. So, if you are not sure, it is better to seat after your colleagues get seated and get kindly escorted. This happens mostly having a meal with business partners, senior workers, or grand parents and elder relatives.
Please do not worry too much about Asian manners, although they might sometimes sound too strict for you. If people here know you are not familiar with their cultures, they are willing to help you most of the time. It is always recommended to learn how to use chopsticks to savor the meals.
