prone to... prone to gain weight or prone to gaining weight?

You'd say 'gaining' here because the the word 'to' is part of the phrase 'to be prone to'. In this sentence, 'to' is a regular preposition, so it has to take a gerund form (..ing). This is different from a sentence such as 'I'd like to gain weight' in which 'to' is part of the infinitive.
