What does this mean ? 1. What does 'Yet to a left-wing crowd' mean? Please explain the sentence. In a recent memoir, she celebrates “the American model of free markets for free people”. Yet to a left-wing crowd, she says: “Don’t let anybody tell you, that, you know, it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs.” (An aide later said she meant tax breaks for corporations.) 2. What do 'on the right fret' & 'divorced from the lives of' here mean ? Mrs Clinton’s critics on the right fret that she is a power-hungry statist. (“Give her an inch and she’ll be your ruler,” warns a campaign badge.) On the left they fear that she is close to Wall Street (her campaign is predicted to raise $1 billion), divorced from the lives of ordinary Americans (she first moved into a governor’s mansion in 1979) and hawkish. 3. Does 'pin down' mean 'to ignore' ? For someone who has been on the national stage for a quarter-century, her beliefs are strangely hard to pin down.http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21647969-most-familiar-candidate-surprisingly-unknown-what-does-hillary-stand Thanks!

Hey, 1. The "left" or "left-winged" in this context has to do with political ideologies or political affiliation--"left" is liberal (Democrat) and "right" is conservative (Republican). In this first example the author is saying that although Clinton celebrates free markets in her book, she says something different when in front of a different (more liberal--"left-wing") audience. 2. The first, "on the right fret," is as stated above--Clinton's conservative critics ("on the right") worry or fear ("fret") she is a....so on. "Divorced from the lives of" means she is "disconnected from" or doesn't understand the lives of normal Americans. 3. "Pin down" does not mean ignore, but "to identify" or "to determine." Best!

1. Left-Wing Crowd = People that agree to social equality (Everyone should have equal chance etc..) In politics, there's always a left-wing and right-wing. It's telling you what political thoughts they have. 2. 'on the right fret' = the right wing party. (People who believe that inequality [not being equal] is natural) 'divorced from the lives of' means that the person cannot relate to them. (She does not understand/know them well) 3. 'Pin Down' means to know exactly. So when it says "her beliefs are strangely hard to pin down" it means that it's hard to know what kind of belief she has.
