Arabic "ing" tense اذا فهمت صحيح ممكن وضع "ام" قبل كالمة Doing so seems to make the "ing" form of the verb, though I've only heard two examples: امدور على سيارتي سيارتي ما امتشتغل Can you use this form with any verb to create this particular tense?

The present in Arabic is only one tense so when you say " I play football" and "I'm playing football" in Arabic, both are " أنا ألعب كرة القدم " The prefix "ام" is just a kind of accent or local language in some countries

I think you have go this "ام" from some Arabs in Amyah not in MSA..yes you are right but it is عم not ام Make the ع sound clear and you will be understood. عم دور ع سيارتي I am look/ing/ for my car. سيارتي ما عم تشتغل ... this will be the dialect of Sham .. and it is wonderful.

Arabic is not like English actually I think the present simple in English like (present simple and progressive) in Arabic.

ادور على سيرتى ..لغة عامية مصرية dialect للدلالة على الاستمرار نضيف بـ تصبح " بأدور على سيارتى " "ام " خطأ " فى اللهجة الشامية " عم بادور على سيارتى " الصح " سيارتى ماتشتغل " هو " سيارتى لاتشتغل فى اللغة الفصحى لا يوجد مضارع مستمر no present continuous لكن نحسها من السياق we feel it
