Jump / Hop / Leap
What is the difference between these three words?

Jump is fairly general.
Hop is a small jump involving an upward movement. Rabbits and kangaroos hop. For people, especially children, 'hop' also means to jump on one leg.
A 'leap' is a very long jump. It's often used figuratively. For example, Neil Armstrong's quote about stepping on to the moon included the phrase 'a giant leap for mankind'
