What's the difference between savoury and salty?

In culinary terms, "savoury" is usually used to distinguish from "sweet". Thus it typically includes salty (since there aren't many Western dishes that are both significantly salty and sweet). Technically, there is a separate taste receptor on the tongue for savoury tastes that is different from salty, and also from the other three basic tastes of bitter, sweet and sour.
