What is the meaning of 'to touch' above? To mention?

Paws touched (had physical contact with) Garfield's food and Garfield thinks that's unsanitary so he got his own.

Do you mean "touch" in (You touched that one. I'll get my own.)?
I think it means physically touching the food using his hand.
