I think 抑える is likely to be used differently from 押さえる.　 押さえる is used like somebody hold something physically. eg. "He holds his brow." On the other hand, 抑える is used with unphysical thing. eg. "She restrained her anger with difficulty." うまく説明できないけど！笑
