Award - recognization for one's efforts (usually just a piece of paper or a medal. Not something really of actual value. Maybe a trophy)
I got an award at work for my excellent customer service; they hung my picture on the wall.
Reward - a prize for doing something (valuable)
Ex. There was a reward of $500 being offered for the return of the neighbor's dog.

A reward is an acknowledgement given to somebody for his efforts.
An award is a prize given to somebody for accomplishing something rare.
