I agree with Michael, and just to add that in the second example of 'way' in your text, I would consider the whole phrase 'to insinuate his way into her affections'. This phrase is quite negative, and means that he is manipulating her. He is making her like him; he has found the 'path' to her heart, but perhaps by deceiving her. We have quite a lot of expressions for this, such as 'worm one's way into' and 'ingratiate oneself with'.
