Is island an uncountable noun?
"Te Ka and the demons of the deep still lurk, hiding in a darkness that will continue to spread, chasing away our fish, draining the life from island after island,...." -it's from Moana
When I look up the dictionary, it says island is countable.
So I think "island" in the sentence above needs an article or they should be plural..
But it's just 'island'..
Could anyone help me with this?

when you want to express the continuty of something in time, you use AFTER and a singular noun. Example:
DAY AFTER DAY (you don't say days after days)
YEAR AFTER YEAR
ISLAND AFTER ISLAND
etc
18 juillet 2018
it works as an abverb here, "day by day", "island after island", "at school", "in hospital" etc
