Do/does Hi all, I would like to learn when and why you native english use the "do/does" auxiliary in affirmative sentences.

Es: I believe in you/ I do believe in you

I have the same doubt in the use of "did" in affirmative sentences. Can I say: I did win the lottery or I won the lottery ?

Hi, Giulio. It’s used to emphasize a “yes” that contradicts a previous “no” (stated or implied): A: What do you like to eat? B: I like liver. A: No way! You can’t like liver! B: I *do* like liver. In other languages, including Italian, you would probably use the word for “yes”: Il fegato si mi piace.
