I am not sure I can give a quick and easy explanation, as there are many different uses of the terms count and account. Both have verb and noun forms, and the verbal forms have additional phrasal verbs. Here are 2 resources that may help.
I believe in the example you give the first account would be the correct choice. See https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/account for (something) #3.
This resource may also help.
