And as the sky's falling down it crashed into this lonely town
Hello, this is from a song titled I See Fire, by Ed Sheeran (https://genius.com/Ed-sheeran-i-see-fire-lyrics). It's about a dragon.
[Bridge]
And if the night is burning, I will cover my eyes
For if the dark returns then my brothers will die
And as the sky's falling down it crashed into this lonely town
And with that shadow upon the ground I hear my people screaming out
Could you explain to me the third line, please? "And as the sky's falling down it crashed into this lonely town", what does the "as" means here, "while" or "because"? Why does he use the present continuous in the first clause ("as the sky's falling down") and the past simple in the second ("it crashed into this lonely town")?
Thank you.

I understand the 'as' to mean, 'while,' here. I'm not sure why he changed the verb tenses. You would usually say, 'as the sky was falling down, it crashed...,' or, 'as the sky is falling down, it crashes...'

"as" means "while". I don't know the answer, but I guess it is because in music and poetry the rules are less defined. It doesn't sound weird to me, because nobody actually talks like that. It's art.
