What is the difference between overdo, go to extremes, and do in excess?
I think it is the degree that matters.
In my understanding, "go to extremes" - implies an unacceptable level, so it is the strongest among them, but what about the other two?

I wanted soft boiled eggs but I guess I overdid it. They are hard boiled eggs now.
Adderall is a great medicinal option for being more productive. Some folks take it to the extremes and abuse it.
I wish I was thinner. I weigh in excess of 10 tons, I'm as huge as an elephant I tell ya!

Overdo=do in excess=do more than needed
Yes, 'to do something extreme' is slightly stronger than the other two.
