When do I use °Bùshì° and when °Bù° ?
I am a complete beginner so my apologies if the question is stupid. Thank you in advance. :)

Use "bushi" before a noun:
niu bushi ren= cows aren't people.
use "bu" in front of adjectives and adverbs
zhe tai che bu kuai= this car isn't fast
zhe tai che kai de bu kuai= this car doesn't drive quickly
Use "bu" or "mei" in front of verbs. Use "bu" to mean mean "don't," and use "mei" to mean haven't.
Wo bu chi choudoufu= I don't eat stinky tofu.
Wo hai mei chiguo choudoufu= I haven't eaten stinky tofu yet.

Hello, Stasa
Just want to add something. 不 by itself is pronounced as the fourth tone. But, when the tone changes into the second tone when preceding a character with the fourth tone. Here are some examples:
(1) 不辣 bù lā (not spicy)
(2) 不忙 bù máng (not busy)
(3) 不好 bù hǎo (not good)
(4) 不是 bú* shì (to be + not)
*note the changing tones.
Hope it helps. Good luck with your study.

There is no stupid question. Keep it up.
To give you a better understanding, first, you need to know the meaning of Bù (不) mean no. You can use it when you want to reject something or deny, just like english.
For example, 1. do you want to hang out?Bù. 2.is she beautiful? Bù.
FYI, Bù (不) can combine with other word to make sentence more beautiful and meaningful. Bushi is one of those. Overall, if you use no to deny or reject something, I believe those who understand chinese will get what you mean.
Bùshì (不是)means is/am not. This is combination of 2 words. FYI,是mean yes.
You can use Bùshì when someone asks you:
are you 12 year old?
Are you from Italy?
For the above questions, you also can use Bù
I think you can learn better if you create more scenarios or sentence to use these words. We could correct you from your example.
