I'd actually never heard this word before, but it seems like it's the indefinite plural of the word "fora", which means the transportation of cargo, often by means of animals (oxen, donkeys, etc.). I don't have the book at hand, but I'm guessing that it's "furor", meaning "pine trees", and that there is a misprint in the book (alternatively, that you made a mistaking writing it down).
