Salut, "père et fils" means literally father and sons. In reference to wine it indicates the ownership of the factory or business by the father and his sons as in : Charles Bieler Père et Fils Bouchard Père et Fils It is that "Bouchard" started the business and his sons joined him when they grew up. Mentioning the father as the founder and adding the names of the his sons as current assistants or main operators of the business and most probably the heirs. When the brand has gained fame by the father's name it is left unchanged and the reference to the sons is to indicate the real directors of the business at the moment. Even when the father dies in many cases the brand stays by his name partly to honor his achievements and partly because his name is prestigious enough and connected with the good quality of the wine.
