I'll throw light into that issue, does it make sense in a classroom? Can a teacher say I'll throw light into that, to students who do not understand something? Or is it too formal? Thank you

Not “into” Let’s throw some light onto the issue. (Let’s talk about some things that will make the issue clearer and easier to see) I can shed some light on that. (I have something to say that will make things clearer) “Shed” and “throw” are both possible and not too formal. “Shed” sounds a little more natural to me.
