What is the difference between 어디에서 왔어요? And 어느 나라 사람이에요?

1. 어디에서 왔어요? (어디에서 오셨어요?) = (literally) Where did you come from? = Where are you from?
2. 어느 나라 사람이에요? (어느 나라 사람이세요?) = What nationality are you ? / What country do you come from.
(The phrases in parentheses are the more common, polite way to say them)
(2) asks the nationality specifically, but (1) can also mean "What are you here for?" - i.e. it indirectly asks what the person's purpose of visiting a place (it is a softer way of saying "What is your purpose/business of coming here?").
