What is crucial in the price of a teacher? Hello! There are different English teachers with CELTA certificate and without. The prices vary a lot sometimes some people without any degree have higher price than those who have the necessary certificate. How do you see it? I mean what should be the objective reasons for teachers to raise prices? Thank you!

Celta is only a beginning certificate that follows the Cambridge University way of Teaching. It is of an higher level than the 140 hours of basic instruction you get elsewhere from other courses, but it is not anything like a degree from any university to teach English. If a teacher has only recently received their CELTA you should view them as a newly qualified trainee teacher with no experience yet who has yet to establish their style of teaching or particular methods. The prices they must charge to survive depend upon their native City and Country. Or whether they are teaching full time or part time online. Do they need all their online income to survive or just as something extra after having another income elsewhere. A teacher in the west such as America or the UK seeking an income from online teaching will always have to try and find a balance between their hourly charges the money they need to pay rent etc and the amount of hours they have available to spare for online teaching. The hourly cost to survive unfortunately will often amount to sometimes more than a months income for students in other countries. To pay for a fully qualified language teacher at a top London language school associated with London University will only be from £10.00 to £30.00 per hour depending upon the course I would say any online tutor who charges more than about £15.00 per hour is charging more than if you attended a language course [in person or online] at a top University and received a recognised certificate at the end of it.

The short answer is that supply and demand sets the price. A few customers (students) pay a high price for the best product available (teachers with the best credentials, experience, and talent). Most customers pay an average price for an average product. A few customers pay a low price for an inferior product (by choice or necessity). A highly qualified teacher with six years of university studies (Master's degree in ESL/ESOL) has excellent credentials which include training in teaching English to non-native speakers. A teacher with four years of university studies in English has good credentials. They usually know English well but don't know teaching methods for teaching a language to non-native speakers. A teacher with a hundred hours of training (TEFL certificate, TESL certificate, ...) has basic credentials. They might be incompetent, barely competent, or outstanding. A native speaker without training as a language teacher is helpful for practicing existing skills, particularly with advanced language learners. When they "teach" something new, they typically use a trial-and-error approach. Effectiveness depends on training, experience, and talent. The price point set by the teacher depends on their options in local schools and the internet. In wealthier countries, a highly qualified ESL native-speaker teacher makes more money in a government school teaching English to immigrant children than they make on the internet. So, there are relatively few highly qualified italki native-speaker teachers. There are teachers who don't work in a government school (retired teachers, traveling-the-world teachers, women teachers with young children) who find that internet teaching provides an acceptable income. In poorer countries, a qualified EFL nonnative-speaker teacher makes more teaching on the internet than in a government school. So, there are a number of non-native teachers on italki who are well qualified.

As for everything, it’s the balance between supply and demand.

Certificates are one of them but the point is the character of the teacher and how much experience they have. Some has decent experience and qualification, don't mean that I and him/her will click with
