what does "be caught on the wrong foot" means? are there any synonymous idioms?

If something catches you on the wrong foot, you are not prepared for it. Example: I hadn't expected the question and it caught me on the wrong foot.

It means "amazed" or "astonished". To be caught by surprise and you're not prepared.
