Formal “you” accusative and neuter possessive pronoun
I’m currently learning possessive pronouns, but I am confused by the parenthesized “e” for ihr(e)s. What is this for and how is it used? Thank you!

"Ihrs" is rather colloquial (or old-fashioned), you can just learn "ihres".

you can use "Ihre" like "her" or "their" refering to plural. Or it can mean "your" when you speak to a person politely (when you use "Sie", not "du") . For example:

ihre Kinder (her kids) 
ihre Kinder (their kids)
Ihre Kinder (your kids)

It would help to have an example sentence... Ihr Hund, Ihres Hundes, Ihrem Hund, Ihren Hund (hier "Ihrs" would simply be wrong) But in "Ist das Ihr(e)s?" meaning "Is that yours?" both would be acceptable, "Ihres" being "correct" and "Ihrs" being "spoken colloquial".
