Ping-pong or table tennis?
Are two words “ping-pong” and “table tennis” the same meaning? And which one do you usually use?

I think ping pong is more common in the U.S., e.g. our "ping-pong diplomacy" with Communist China in the 1970s.

I grew up in America using "ping-pong." As I grew older, I remember being surprised to learn that it could be a serious sport, and that it was also called table-tennis. "Ping-pong" is more informal, more fun to say, and implies a more relaxed, less competitive attitude.

They are the same. I believe the term Ping-Pong is used in China, whereas Table Tennis is definitely BrEng. Not sure about AmEng.

I have always thought of them as synonyms. I always say ping-pong but I only play it as a fun activity not as a sport.
