What's the difference between "appear" & "present"? It is from a cloze test. As the place circled over the airport, everyone sensed that something was wrong. The plane was moving unsteadily through the air,....At that moment, the airhostess_________. A: presented B: appeared What is the best answer? And why to choose this one? Thank you!Hi, romulus, Jura and roi g. Thank you very much for explaining. Actually I chose "appeared". But the key was "presented".So I got confused. I will show you more. As the plane circled over the airport, everyone sensed that something was wrong. The plane was moving unsteadily through the air,and although the passengers had fastened their seat belts, they were suddenly thrown forward. At that moment, the airhostess_________. She looked very pale, but was quite calm.... A: presented B: appeared Thank you very much for helping.

Hi, the correct word is B: 'appeared' because it means that the air hostess came in sight, in view of the passengers. She made herself visible. The word 'presented' on its own means being at hand or within reach or call. However in the cloze test the sentence it is not correct if you use 'presented'. The answer would be correct if A was : presented herself

hello, yes, the best answer would be "appeared" meaning 'came out' (from the) or 'showed up'. if you're going to use "presented" here, the sentence would seem incomplete, unless you mean that the air hostess were introduced by someone or perhaps did some posing or any entertaining act upon coming out from the plane... (just exaggerating) :)
