Hi... Correction : You have to write French like that in english and Français in french... It is virtually impossible to say but what it is important to know, I think is onl 300 or 400 most frequent words are said to make up 70% of every French-speaking conversation... Good luck!

Hello Tony, It is impossible to count exactly the number of words in a language, because it is so hard to decide what counts as a word and because sometimes new words and entries are constantly formed as well. French has like many other languages a sort of technical language such as medical terms and scientific elements (not to mention species) and this will most likely add about 250,000 plus words just from those terms. So the number will always differ depending on how much of slang, archaic, or scientific reference is included in the statistics. As per the "Office de la langue française du Québec" for example, depending of which kind of words are included in the count, it could be around 500,000 words. ____
