"Thank you for doing something" comes out in German as:
"Danke, dass du etwas getan hast".
Also, "Danke, dass du mich als Freund hinzugefuegt hast".

Danke, dass du (Sie) mich bei Facebook als Freund hinzugefügt hast (haben).

The words in the brackets are used by very polite persons ;)
