If you can try to go to bed and get up at the same times every day.
It might take a few days but once your body is used to the routine it will automatically feel sleepy and want to wake up at the times you programme it to.
Although some of these points have already been made, these are the things which help me go to sleep earlier:
- Do not nap during the day,
- 10 - 30 minutes of exercise in the early evening,
- Avoid large meals and caffeinated drinks after 7 pm
- Avoid blue light for a couple of hours before you go to bed
(for example from a phone, computer, television..)
And most importantly for me:
- Do not try to force yourself to sleep, only go to bed when you are tired.
If you are not tired try a milky drink, read or listen to some relaxing music.
If you still have trouble getting to sleep early you might consider what is keeping you awake, for example if you are stressed or anxious about something.
If you are suffering from insomnia rather than trying to get to sleep earlier you might want to consult a doctor, sleeping pills are useful but should be a last resort.
Good Luck! Clemency
