「話に乗る」というのは、通常、「何かに賛成する」「信じて援助をする」というような意味で使います。
「話に乗る」 means "support a proposal" "believe and involve in a plan".
「うまい話に乗って、結局は損をした」
(It seemed to be a very good proposal, but it was a mistake to believe it.)
「そんなわけのわからない話には乗れない」
(I don't want to be involved in such an irrational project.)
というように使います。
