Hello native English speakers. Have the same meaning as these two sentences do, but in general, one of which is grammatically incorrect by my grammar book.
Could you tell me which is grammatically correct?
I guess both are grammatically correct but …
1. He saved money so that he was able to buy a house and so that he had enough for his old age.
2. He saved money so that he could buy a house and so that he would have enough money for his old age.
Question:
Which is grammatically correct?
Do both have the same meaning?

I would use 3 as a native speaker.

As a native English speaker I would say this instead “He saved money to buy a house and prepare for retirement.”
