Can someone explain "A big deal" vs "(a) big of a deal" to me please?

"Big" isn't a noun, so you can't have "a big of a deal." It makes no sense.

Perhaps for your second option you meant “a bit of a big deal.”

You need to use this variant "a big deal" as the second one does not exist in English.
