This is the name of an article in today's New York Times. I found it very interesting and thought others may also enjoy it.

The author is Pamela Druckerman. The Times will usually let non-subscribers read one or two stories before denying access and, of course, perhaps one may find it through a Google Search.

Celta certification? How to find who has it?
Can someone tell me if there is an easy way to determine which Italki teachers have this? I would like to book a lesson with an English speaker who has it in order to learn more about the process.

Tesol or Tefl training recommendations please!
Hello, I'm an American looking to become certified in a Tesol or Tefl program this coming year and I would really love to hear from others who have obtained these certifications and whether they would recommend the training they received.

My initial impression is that there seems to be a lot of very inexpensive programs that grant certifications after a very short period of training. I can't see that the quality of this training could be too good, but maybe I'm wrong. On the other hand, I've looked into mainstream, state colleges who offer such certification on-line, but then I'm told that they are not the ones really doing the teaching, but instead the training is carried out by an outfit called Coursera who apparently offer all sorts of college classes online. Unfortunately Coursera ratings are less than admirable. To take such training thru Coursera would cost a few hundred dollars while taking the same courses thru a recognized state university would cost about $9000, but then you would have certification from a major U.S. college.

Anyways, please let me know where you received your certification and whether you would recommend it to others.

Who has the most lessons with one teacher? I don't remember who, but I do recall seeing that some students have had 60-70 lessons with one teacher. I think that's great, but who has the most? Over what time period. Come on, play along, I'm sure many people are interested in this topic.

Which teachers have taught the most lessons? All languages.

What is the highest number of lessons you have seen taught under the various teacher profiles?

For French, a man named Phil has taught over 5700 lessons if my memory serves me right. That's rather amazing! 

What about the language you're learning? What is the highest number you have come across?

It was -29 F here last night

That's the coldest I've ever experienced. I was hoping we would hit -30.

What's the coldest you have ever experienced? Would really like to hear from the Nordic countries and Russians on this one.

For those who may be interested, this class in either DVD or video download is available for $35. This is 90% off the normal price. If you buy it in DVD form, you will receive a workbook of over 500 pages that go along with the video series. The class consists of 30, 45 minute sessions.

Those  who buy the online version will have to pay an extra $10 plus shipping for the workbook.

To those wanting English partners

First of all, I wish you luck, but I can't help, but feel, that your chances for success would be better if you provided some additional information on your post.

1. Please provide some indication as to how much training you have had in the language you are hoping to learn.

2. List what language(s) you are fluent in.

3. Indicate how you hope to communicate with your would be partner-Skype, etc.

4. Indicate whether you are willing to give some instruction in your native tongue in exchange.

5. Respond to all offers with a yes or no and show some appreciation.

I realize that some people wanting an English speaker partner won't be able to understand or read this. I'm sorry, but hopefully someone can help them out.
